What a beautiful way to send off this amazing project. I love dungeontroll a lot and I am sad to see it go. However, this album being the end is as great of a closer there could be. Probably my favorite album in dungeontroll’s immense collection.

Paths of the Eternal is one of my favorite composers in the dungeon synth universe and he offers us here a whole new sound, different from his previous albums, but just as captivating. This time it explores darker, even haunted and terrifying tones, but the end result is just as gripping and catchy. An artist with extraordinary sensitivity.

If I had to pick a single word to describe Return of the Ancients, I think I would just say 'big'. The opening track sets the tone in a grand, sweeping style. This drama is reinforced through the tracklist with the use of bombastic drums and brassy horns. The journey sees some sort of resolution in the penultimate track, and the listener is gently released from the action in the final track which feels distinctly different from the rest of the album.
